Privacy Policy

The short version

This is a personal portfolio at this domain (the "site"), run by Musa Alanssari ("I", "me"). There are no accounts, no advertising, and no cookies used for tracking or advertising, and I don't sell, rent, or share information about you. The one cookie this site does set is a small, first-party preference cookie (explained below) — not a tracker. The only measurement is privacy-friendly, cookieless page-view analytics (also explained below). The interactive demos run on your own device or a server I host, and anything they capture (your camera, a video you choose) is handled as described here.

Cookies & tracking

This site sets one small, first-party preferences cookie so your appearance (light/dark) and motion choices hold steady on return visits, plus a randomly-generated, opaque device ID that lets a returning visit on the same browser be matched back to those two preferences. It contains no personal information, is never sent to any third party or advertiser, is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and cannot follow you to a different browser or device. What are cookies?

Beyond that, the site runs no advertising trackers. For a basic sense of which pages get visited, I use Vercel Web Analytics — a privacy-friendly tool that counts page views without cookies, without tracking you across other websites, and without collecting data that identifies you personally. The only other browser storage is a temporary, random session id the Face Tracker demo keeps in your tab so your faces stay separate from other visitors'.

What's collected automatically

Beyond standard technical logs, nothing. Like virtually all websites, whatever service hosts these files may keep ordinary server logs (IP address, browser/user-agent, the page requested, and a timestamp) for security, troubleshooting, and reliability. I don't combine those logs with anything else or use them to identify you.

If you reach out

The contact page offers direct links — email, phone, LinkedIn, and GitHub. There is no contact form that stores data on the site. If you email or call, I'll see what you choose to send (such as your name, email address, phone number, and message) and use it only to respond and follow up. I keep that correspondence only as long as needed for our conversation.

Your camera & the Face Tracker demo

The "Facial Recognition" demo in the Playground only starts after you click Launch and your browser grants camera permission. If you never launch it, your camera is never accessed. Here's exactly what happens when you do:

• Frames are sent to a computer-vision server to be analyzed. While the demo runs, webcam frames are sent to a Python/OpenCV server (run locally, or hosted by me) purely to detect and recognize faces in real time. Frames are processed on the fly and are not saved as images — there's no recording or photo storage.
• Your face data is isolated to your own temporary session. The face "signatures," names, and counts the demo remembers are kept in memory in a session that's private to your browser — other visitors can't see them — and are automatically discarded after a period of inactivity (or immediately when you click "Clear all"). They aren't tied to your name or any account.
• You stay in control. You can rename or delete people, export the gallery to a JSON file you save yourself, import one back, or clear everything. Stop the demo or close the tab and the camera is released.
• Please only use it with consent. Point it at yourself or at people who've agreed — don't use it to identify others without their permission.

Third-party services & embedded content

To work, some pages ask your browser to contact other companies. When it does, those companies necessarily receive your IP address and request details and handle them under their own privacy policies (I don't control them):

• Vercel Web Analytics — a cookieless analytics script that records anonymous, aggregate page views (no cross-site tracking, no personal profiles).
• Google Fonts — the site's typefaces load from Google's font servers.
• jsDelivr (CDN) — a couple of open-source libraries (used by the Playground demos) load from this content-delivery network.
• Embedded live apps — the "Mares Manor" and "Noor" demos, once launched, load those real sites (hosted on Vercel) inside a frame. Noor may ask your browser for location (to calculate prayer times and qibla) and notification permission; those prompts come from the Noor app itself, and you can decline them.
• Buttondown (newsletter) — if you choose to subscribe to blog updates, the email address you enter goes directly to Buttondown, the newsletter service that stores the list and sends the emails. It's used only to send you new posts, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. I never sell or share the list.
• Outbound links — links to GitHub and LinkedIn take you to those third-party sites.

Third-party names & logos

The GitHub, LinkedIn, and Gmail names and logos shown on this site (for example, the icons next to the links in the menu) are the trademarks and property of their respective owners. They are used here only to identify those services as the destination of a link — a nominative, fair-use reference. Their use does not imply any endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, or affiliation: this site is independent and is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or part of GitHub, LinkedIn, Google/Gmail, or any other company named here. If you own one of these marks and would like its use changed or removed, get in touch and I'll take care of it.

Children

This site isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.
